  1. Didn’t you already post this Yokai a while back? I recall a few my fellow enthusiast friends discussing it (it was alongside the Octopus Monk and Eel Princess) which they wouldn’t be able to if it was just a Patreon exclusive.

  2. He was a Patreon request back in January. I posted the entry on yokai.com then, but I didn’t put anything on my blog about it. With Patreon, I have to make the end result free to the public, but the “Patreon exclusive” stuff that covers the making of the yokai, the sketchwork, and stuff like is all for backers only. This gives me a chance to share a bit of that with regular blog readers, because sometimes the work that goes into researching a yokai is more interesting than the yokai itself! Especially with ones like this, which don’t have any story to them at all. So your friends probably saw the illustration on Facebook back in January, but with none of the context behind its creation that is posted here or on Patreon.

  3. (Also, it’s impossible for me to paint and translate fast enough to do a brand new one every single day, so I have to dip into some of the images I did for Patreon earlier in the year, but most readers may not have had a chance to see.)
