Nue is a pretty awesome yokai, isn’t it? Unfortunately there really isn’t much information available on it, other than a few brief historical records. It’s one of the oldest yokai, but by the same token, it hasn’t really been “updated” since those original stories. As far as I can tell, there is nothing you are “supposed” to do if you meet one — other than maybe run away! And as there haven’t been any nue sightings in hundreds of years, maybe they are extinct, or maybe they have just been driven away from human areas?

Yes, finally found some more information about the Nue! I love this yokai, though I have no idea why…. Thank you so much for writing about this one. It’s hard to find information about the Nue and when I do, I keep finding the same information. Which is such a shame. Luckily, I found more background information here, which made me very happy.
Question: any idea what to do when you encounter a Nue? Or was the last Nue slain long ago?
If there ever will be a sequel of your book (which I love very much), please include the Nue. So few people know about him.
Looking forward to more yokai! 😀
