I have been transposing Bashō haiku into a modern historical context. The Reichold translation of 'Katsura otoko / sumazu narikeri / ame no tsuki' is

that handsome man
clearly is no longer living
a rain-hidden moon

Some of the transpositions are difficult, but this one was easy for describing what is happening in our winter of discontent here in America.

Bottom up middle out
"Never again" has died not there
                        rains of the dark moon

If you followed the U.S. elections you will recognize the slogans of Kamala Harris. "Never Again" was her determination that "Never again should that man sit behind the seal of the President of the United States"

Sadly, that is exactly where he is sitting, sucking the life out of our republic. Nothing beautiful about that man, but the dark face is what now rains/reigns upon us.
