This year for #ayokaiaday we are looking at the bizarre occurrences which took place at the Ino residence in Miyoshi, Hiroshima, during July of 1749. These occurrences all revolve around a young boy named Ino Heitaro. His story is collected in Ino mononoke roku, a collection of scrolls, books, and legends which collectively form the narrative of a supernatural phenomenon that took place 270 years ago.

By the sixteenth night, the glue in his room from the previous night was completely gone. Heitaro was once again able to lay out his futon. Finally he would be able to get a good night’s sleep!

…Or so he thought.

During the night, a dozen or so severed heads on stakes appeared in his room. They began to dance around on their sticks, around his bed and up to his pillow. All of this was accompanied by strange, ritualistic music which came from out of nowhere.

Heitaro was tired and not in the mood. He went to sleep anyway, and let the severed heads just do their thing.

  1. Yes… you finally just stop caring… or go crazy. I can’t wait for the punchline. ;D
BTW… what did the voice say last night?

  2. The “tontokosa koko ni” part, right? It’s kind of like “knock knock, over here!” Tontokosa is an onomatopoeia for drumming, and koko ni means over here. So it was sort of calling Heitaro to come check it out.
