September Lineup

Greetings everyone, and happy September!

It sounds like Patreon is beginning to charge everyone for August, and that should take a couple days. When that is done, I will be sending out the doodled postcards and prints to the August backers, so make sure if you are in the $5 or higher levels that you have input your mailing address!

In the meantime, I want to share September’s lineup and talk a bit about next month too.

First, October: as you may know from my blog, October is A-Yokai-A-Day month, which means that every day I will be posting a new yokai to yokai.com. The majority of them are going to be from my new book, The Hour of Meeting Evil Spirits, simply because I can’t manage to paint and write a new yokai every day while working a job (in the past I was doing much smaller acrylic paintings, which took only a few hours; the digital paintings I do now take a lot longer, but the end results are much better). The rest will come from the Patreon project. I plan on doing 5 original yokai, and more if I am able to… They will be requests from backers, including the kekka and obariyon, a tengu, and a few ghost stories/spooky urban legends.

By request, September is going to be an marine/coastal theme. I plan to do 3 yokai this month, as I will be preparing for October during the same time. The three yokai are:

1. Wani, a sea monster/dragon found in very oldest Japanese legends

2. Gangikozou, a hairy, coastal cousin of the kappa

3. Oonamazu, a giant catfish said to be responsible for earthquakes

If your request didn’t make it in for September, it will be done in October! Anyway, more on October at the end of this month…

That’s it for now! (On to sketching!) Thanks for continuing to support me this month. It’s going to be a great month for yokai!
