I Wouldn’t Go In There… | I Wouldn’t Go In There…

It’s That Time Again |

YokaiSummer has come and gone, faster than I could have imagined! But I’m happy because now it is fall, my favorite time of year. And for me, one of the biggest fall events that I look forward to is A-Yokai-A-Day!

In less than a month, A-Yokai-A-Day will return for 2013, with 30 brand new yokai never before featured on this site. They’ll also be appearing on yokai.com, my brand new online illustrated database of yokai, yurei, and strange phenomena from Japanese folklore!

Finally, what’s I’m most excited about is that along with A-Yokai-A-Day, I will be launching a second Kickstarter project to raise funds to produce a second book! I launched my first Kickstarter in August of 2011, and the result was The Night Parade of One Hundred Demons. This second Kickstarter will work essentially the same way, and I will be producing another book with over 100 new yokai from Japanese folklore, fully illustrated in color!

I’ll be posting more information on the 2nd book soon, so check back again later this month, and get ready for an awesome fall full of yokai!

The Night Parade of One Hundred Demons 」を出版することができました。

Yokai Presentation |

Yesterday I had a great time at the M. Allan Vogelson Regional Branch of the Camden County Library. I was invited to give a presentation on yokai and Japanese legends as part of the Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival.

The Cherry Blossom Festival is just around the corner, and pretty soon the cherry blossoms will be popping all over Philadelphia. Which makes it appropriate that I just finished this painting of Shofuso Japanese House and Garden in Fairmount Park, with its cherry trees in full bloom.

If you’ve been paying attention to my Facebook page, you’ve probably noticed that for a while I was getting 1 painting done per week, until March. Well, that’s because I’ve been wrestling with this painting all month long, and finally I am happy with the results. The level of tiny detail is pretty intense in this one, and it looks great full-size on paper.

I’ll be selling this print and some others at Sakura Sunday (April 14 @ the Fairmount Park Horticulture Center). Hope to see you there!

100 Famous Views of Philadelphia Prints are Available

Wow, it has been an incredibly long time since I last posted anything on my website… About 4 months even! You know how time just bleeds away when you’re busy? That’s what the past few months have been like for me.

Some time back, I mentioned how I was rebooting my “100 Famous Views of Philadelphia” series with a view of doing all 100 prints and putting them into a large, full-color book like I did with Night Parade last year (Oh yeah! And it’s just 1 year now that Night Parade has been out too!). Well, I have been working night and day on the new images, trying to get one done about each week.

If you’ve been following me on Facebook/Twitter/Google+ then you know that I haven’t been totally silent; only silent on my blog. And you’ve probably seen the images of the finished pieces as I’ve been getting them done. And you’ve probably heard me apologize that I don’t have prints available yet. Well that changes today!
